Brick is one of the oldest and conventional building construction material in the history of architecture, chosen as a material from BC 7000 . Because of its brick's impression and characteristic described as 'heavy', 'rough' and 'rigid form', brick was considered as an old-fashioned material and most of modern architects or designers deployed innovative materials instead. However, with the aid of up-to-date parametric design softwares and technologies, brick is experiencing a Renaissance. It is enlightening the new possibility of the brick, refusing the conventional form or construction method.
Under these circumstances conventional images of masonry construction is no longer applied the same in this project. We are attempting to use brick as the main facade material and float from the ground. Moreover, instead of using vertical or horizontal louvers for the facade to prevent excessive amount of transmitted daylight, Our strategy is to use this brick composed facade as a sun shading device to control the degree of opening within the building responding to both weather condition and inner program.
